2014 BUZZ WORD Spelling Bee

On Thursday September 4, 2014 the Cabarrus Literacy Council (CLC) held their 5th annual BUZZ WORD Spelling Bee at the Davis Theater in downtown Concord where 11 teams of Cabarrus County adults competed for the top spot. 

Organizations with participating teams were:

  1. Ben Mynatt Family of Dealerships
  2. Cabarrus Arts Council

  3. Cabarrus County Public Library

  4. Cabarrus County Schools

  5. Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Department

  6. Concord Fire and Life Safety

  7. Hartsell & Williams, P.A.

  8. Independent Tribune

  9. Technologies Edge

  10. Law Offices of Richard M. Koch

  11. Surprise team (made-up of audience members)

In the end, The Law Offices of Richard M. Koch team spelled “mozzarella” correctly for the win.  The team consisted of Kris Benshoff, Rich Koch and Dianne Snyder.

The BUZZ WORD Spelling Bee is one of the largest fund raisers for the Cabarrus Literacy Council.  This year, the bee brought in over $6,000 for the CLC.

About the Cabarrus Literacy Council

The CLC offers tutoring in adult basic education (reading, writing, speaking), Basic English for speakers of other languages, preparation assistance for high school equivalency exams and preparation assistance for citizenship exams.  Donated funds are put towards the purchasing of learning materials for tutors and students.
